Duke Health Raleigh Hospital was the first hospital to go through the Hallmarks recognition process. It passed the online nurse satisfaction survey, the written application and the site visit with excellence.
Duke Health Raleigh is an important member of the Duke University Health system. It is a 186 bed acute-care facility on Wake Forest Road in North Raleigh with services that include a 24-hour emergency department, intensive and critical care, cardiovascular center, cancer center, musculoskeletal center, diabetes center, cardiac rehabilitation, wellness services and community education. They engage over 270 registered nurses.
When the Hallmarks’ reviewers came to Duke Health Raleigh for the site visit, they were surprised and touched by the warmth with which they were welcomed. There was a sign in the lobby that greeted them. And, every employee that the reviewers met acknowledged them in a friendly way. Sharon, the lead reviewer, said, “You could just feel that this was a good place for nurses to be.” Throughout the visit, the staff was warm and cooperative; providing whatever documentation or other requests that the reviewers had. In the summary report of the site visit, the reviewers and Credentialing Committee noted many strengths. Of particular importance were the efforts to reduce salary compression, recognition of nurses who had achieved the Great 100 and other accomplishments, a robust clinical ladder system and open communication among staff nurses and nursing administration. These are all attributes that contribute to a healthy, viable workplace for nurses. Rosemary Brown, Chief Nursing Officer, accepted the recognition.
