The James E. Davis Ambulatory Surgical Center in Durham received recognition in October, 2006. This Center has an outstanding history of excellent nursing service and support. In the Press Ganey Patient Satisfaction Survey, which includes 17,308 patient responses from the American Hospital Association Region, DASC received 99% in six categories, the highest rating possible. So, it was natural for the James Davis Center to apply for Hallmarks recognition. Their Hallmarks nursing satisfaction survey, written application and site review were all evaluated as excellent.
The multi-specialty James E. Davis Ambulatory Surgical Center is dedicated to providing outpatient surgery in a warm, caring environment. It is part of the Durham Regional Hospital- Duke Health System complex. DASC surgeons perform approximately 7,300 surgeries annually, including endoscopy procedures such as colonoscopies; ear, nose and throat surgeries; opthalmology procedures and general surgery. The surgery center celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2005; having renovated and expanded its facility substantially.
This type of caring service cannot be provided unless its employees, especially registered nurses, are cared for. This atmosphere was noted by the Hallmarks reviewers who participated in the site visit. The reviewers appreciated the clean and inviting atmosphere. Throughout the visit, employee recognition was visible; as was a vigorous career ladder, patient satisfaction survey results, and positive patient outcome statistics. In the summary report, the reviewers noted, “The staff has a great sense of team spirit and repeatedly we heard from management and staff that all employees were “one big family…It was obvious to the reviewers that all staff enjoys working at the Center, which was also evidenced by remarkably high retention rates with long term staff.” Hope Mangum, Administrative Director, received the award.
