The NCNA Bylaws Committee is accepting comments on the proposed bylaws changes unanimously recommended by the NCNA Board of Directors after thorough research, data review and discussion as it relates to the Region components of the NCNA governance structure.
The NCNA Board recommends removing all references to Regions from the NCNA bylaws to bring the bylaws in line with the current state and to offer a more flexible system that continues to support engagement around the interests of the members. In developing this recommendation, the Board reviewed the current bylaws and policy components related to regions, understanding that the primary original purpose of Regions and their District predecessors was as a component of NCNA governance in a time before electronic interaction existed, providing a line of communication to and from the Board of Directors and engaging in the Annual Meeting.
These proposed changes offer maximum flexibility moving forward and recognize that regions are no longer functioning as part of NCNA’s governance structure. A secondary component of the Board recommendation is to offer members the opportunity to continue to engage around geographic commonalities and interests, if desired, through the existing NCNA Council structure.
Further explanation of the proposed changes is available at ncnurses.org/bylaws. You are encouraged to review the information and contact Board members if you have questions or concerns.
Official comments for the Bylaws Committee should be submitted through a survey available on the Bylaws Communication page or by emailing RNs@ncnurses.org by August 15, 2025.
Although the Bylaws Committee has ruled these amendments as substantive, they can be forwarded to the Board of Directors for consideration at their September 10 meeting unless member comment shows significant opposition to the change. In addition to submitting written comment, members may provide verbal comment at the September meeting by phone or in-person. To sign up, please email rebeccalopez@ncnurses.org.
