RALEIGH, N.C. – More than 500 people gathered in Winston-Salem last week for important professional development, to celebrate some of the most successful nurses in North Carolina, and to elect new leaders of the North Carolina Nurses Association (NCNA). The association’s Annual Convention is routinely one of the most anticipated nursing conferences in the state.
The topic for NCNA’s Statewide Membership Forum, which occurs each year during Convention, was “AI in Nursing: Balancing Innovation with Ethical Practice to Move Nursing Forward®.” Some of the other highlights of 118th Annual Convention included inducting two new members of the Hall of Fame, a pair of Legislator of the Year awards, and the swearing-in ceremony for the new Board of Directors. Bonnie Davis Meadows, MSN, APRN, ACCNS-AG, of Belmont, will serve as NCNA’s President for the next two years. Meadows is a Service Line Nurse Educator at Atrium Health.
“In a healthcare landscape that is constantly evolving, the role of the nurse is more important than ever – and NCNA is vital to ensuring that the nursing profession has a seat at the table when major practice and policy changes are being decided," Meadows said. "I am incredibly proud of my colleagues who lead Nursing Forward® on a daily basis, and I cannot wait to see what we can achieve together over the next two years.”
NCNA member G. Rumay Alexander, EdD, RN, FAAN, and Past NCNA President Pat Campbell, RN, MBA, were both inducted into the NCNA Hall of Fame. Alexander has been at the forefront of national diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives for the nursing profession and helped guide NCNA on its path of Relentless Inclusion. Campell, meanwhile, led NCNA through one of its biggest periods of change, setting the tone for a decade of unprecedented growth and advancement.
